I am Abdulla, well over my 50s, but still going strong. Or am I? The city center is dominated by the largest ice-cream factory in the country, where I used to work. I see it every day, since I live just across the street. Maybe biggest problem nowadays is finding time. Time to do all the things I hoped I'd start doing when I retire. Who can tell me where I can find a day with 27 hours, a week with 9 days? I have so many books to read, letters to write, calls to make, friends to visit. I should be visiting Mom very soon...
Summer of 1997 was wonderful, warmest and longest since 1904! Usually, here in Sweden Summer is short and chilly, but it's beautiful enough. Bright, sunny and warm days are very few.
Winter time it's always dark, wet and cold. 1998 had only 4-5 sunny weeks, only 2 weeks in June felt like Summer. In 1999, April and May were sunny enough. Summer is here in June, but not like in Tarsus. No wonder you sometimes feel a funny desire to just get away... far to the South or East or West. No, I am changing my mind. For the first time, I agree with the Swedish Tourist Association: "Sweden is fantastic !". We couldn't have a better Summer anywhere. All May, June and July 1999 have been sunny and warm. Even September is going great. What is it? "Greenhouse effect"? Thank you, more of the same, please...
I was born in Antakya, but my "home"
is Tarsus, Turkey,
where my family moved to when I was 3. Or 3 1/2. Who cares
now?
I first visited Sweden in 1961 for Summer practice, then came back in 1968 for my post-graduate studies. Well, here I am still, a Swede
now and staying. After 10 years in Stockholm and a bad divorce I wanted so to get away from big city. I live alone in Flen, a small city in the middle of Sweden. I like the calm and quiet here. We have lovely Nature: forest everywhere, 3 lakes round the corner. In the near side of one, we have our own tiny beach I often call "Playa del Flen". Not much of sand, not much of a beach to write home about, water is ice-cold, but it's here and it's ours for free!
